Last year, the Audi R18 e-tron quattro was the overall and LMP1 class winner at the Le Mans 24 Hours race. This year, history repeats itself, as the R18 e-tron was once again the winner at the famous race. This was the twelfth Audi victory at Le Mans.
Audi entered the race with three Audi R18 e-tron quattro cars and the win was achieved by the No. 2 car, which was driven by Loïc Duval (France), Tom Kristensen (Denmark) and Allan McNish (Scotland).
The win was even more impressive if you consider that the R18 e-tron cars were able to do two laps less on one tank filling than their main rival Toyota. So the R18 cars had to compensate for the additional pit stops by faster lap times on track
This year’s race was extremely difficult because of the extremely difficult weather conditions. There was also a fatal crash in the GT class shortly after the race started that took the life of Allan Simonsen.
